Beverage Professional/Sales Director/Sommelier – Cayman Islands

Job Description: 

Brasserie Purveyors and The Brasserie Restaurant are currently accepting applications for the position of Beverage Professional/Sales Director/Sommelier.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a creative, knowledgeable and driven individual not only dedicated to working hard, but passionate about the industry as well. The position best suits an individual early in their career with some experience, interested in living in the Caribbean for at least 2 years to build a boutique distributorship in the Cayman Islands.

Key Requirements:

Primarily a sales position.
Sommelier certified a benefit.
Classic wine service expertise & knowledge of craft beer and artisanal spirits.
Ability to tailor wine pairings to our constantly evolving farm-to-table menu, special event menus and tasting menus.
Proficiency in sales techniques as they apply to wine, beer and spirits.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Fine dining experience a must.
Accounting ability in reference to inventory.
Proficient in Excel and Quickbooks.
Ability to plan, manage and successfully execute special events such as tastings and parties.
Knowledge of beer clubs/wine clubs a plus.
The ability to work independently and as a member of a team is vital. Applicants who are well traveled with a demonstrated ability to adjust to new cultures and environments will be given preference.
A minimum 2 year commitment is required.

About the Position:

As Sommelier, you will work as an important member of the front-of-house team, recommending and serving wine to guests in The Brasserie on special occasions. You will be confident in hosting tasting events in different locations, as well as providing excellent service to private parties. You will know what it means to upsell and use your knowledge of wine to advise customers on better/different products from our extensive wine list, now on iPad. You will monitor the conditions of The Brasserie’s Wine Room, including bottles and space. A solid working relationship with the kitchen is paramount in order to develop food and wine pairings.

Brasserie Purveyors is the successful start up alcohol distributorship connected to The Brasserie Restaurant. As Wine/Beverage/Sales Director for Brasserie Purveyors, you will work with distributors in the US and elsewhere to purvey and import wines, beers and spirits from businesses whose ethos fall in line with ours. You will be focused on expanding our current retail list whilst remaining conscientious of budget and costs. A strong customer service background will be important when dealing with clients/purchasers on the island. You will be available for deliveries and have the ability to work ‘on the go’ while maintaining the Brasserie standard of professionalism. This is a role which offers much growth potential for the right candidate.

The Brasserie is a privately owned, 80-seat, fine dining restaurant with busy adjoining lunch space (The Market), in beautiful Grand Cayman Island, in the Caribbean. It is a well-established, reputable, restaurant with a loyal and very discerning clientele and enjoys a fantastic reputation on the island. The restaurant features a purpose built state-of-the-art exhibition kitchen, along with an adjacent organic garden. We grow much of our own produce in our organic garden; use eggs from our own chicken coop and fish caught on our own fishing boats.
