We are thrilled to announce the return of the Best Young Sommelier in South Africa competition, proudly presented by the South African Sommeliers Association in partnership with Stellenbosch Wine Routes. This prestigious event is a golden opportunity for talented sommeliers under the age of 35 to showcase their skills, gain national recognition, and embark on a journey towards incredible career opportunities.

The Best Young Sommelier competition is the pinnacle of excellence in South Africa, highlighting the future leaders of the wine industry. Participants will be exposed to the rigours of international competition, setting the stage for their professional growth and success.

  1. Fantastic Prizes: A range of awards to recognise their exceptional talents. The finalists will be flown to Stellenbosch for an amazing trip to the Cape Winelands.

Competition Schedule


Quarter Finals

The first round of the competition runs from 12 to 27 July 2024. Participants will complete an online vetting form and quiz, which can be accessed from anywhere with a computer.


Regional Semi-Finals

The top performers from the first round will compete in their respective provinces in August and September.


Grand Finale in Stellenbosch

The top four performers will be invited to the finals in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, on 11 September 2024, with all expenses covered.
