1. Introduction
These Terms and Conditions apply to the Best Young Sommelier Competition ("the Competition"), presented by theSouth African Sommeliers Association (“the Organisers”). By entering the Competition, participants agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
2. Eligibility
2.1 The Competition is open to individuals aged at least 18 years old. Candidates must be 35 years old and younger on the date of the competition final, 11 September 2024.
2.2 Participants must be legally residing in the country where the Competition is being held.
2.3 Employees, agents, and affiliates of the Organisers, as well as their immediate family members, are not eligible to participate.
3. Entry Requirements
3.1 Participants must complete the official online vetting form between 12 and 27 July 2024.
3.2 Each participant must provide accurate and complete information. Incomplete or fraudulent entries will be disqualified.
3.3 To continue to the regional semi-finals, the participants must be a member of the South African Sommeliers Association. How to become a member.
4. Competition Stages
4.1 The Competition consists of quarter-finals, regional semi-finals, and a final round.
4.2 Dates of the competition are:
4.2.1 Quarter Final online quiz - entries open from 12 July until midnight 27 July 2024.
4.2.2 Regional Semi Finals will take place at a date to be determined after 27 July and before 10 September 2024.
4.2.3 The Finals will be held in Stellenbosch on 11 September 2024. Transportation and accommodation will be supplied to the finalist.
4.2 Participants will be judged on various criteria, including wine knowledge, tasting skills, and presentation.
4.3 The decisions of the judges are final and binding.
5. Prizes
5.1 The winner of the Competition will receive the title of "Best Young Sommelier in South Africa 2024" and any associated prizes as detailed in the Competition announcement.
5.2 Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash or other alternatives.
5.3 The Organisers reserve the right to substitute any prize with an alternative of equal or greater value in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
6. Conduct
6.1 Participants are expected to conduct themselves professionally and respectfully throughout the Competition.
6.2 Any form of cheating, dishonesty, or misconduct will result in immediate disqualification. This includes but is not limited to the use of generative AI tools to complete any written part of the competition.
7. Intellectual Property
7.1 By entering the Competition, participants grant the Organisers a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and distribute their entry submissions for promotional and marketing purposes.
7.2 Participants warrant that their submissions do not infringe on any third-party rights, including intellectual property rights.
7.3 Participants consent to their photographs, imagery and likeness to be used by SASA for promotional and marketing purposes.
8. Privacy
8.1 Personal information provided by participants will be used in accordance with applicable data protection laws and the Organisers' privacy policy.
8.2 Participants consent to the collection and use of their personal information for the purposes of administering the Competition and related activities.
9. Limitation of Liability
9.1 The Organisers are not responsible for any loss, damage, or injury suffered by participants as a result of their participation in the Competition.
9.2 The Organisers do not accept responsibility for any technical issues, including but not limited to network failures, that may affect the submission or judging process.
10. Governing Law
10.1 These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the country in which the Competition is held, South Africa.
10.2 Any disputes arising from or in connection with the Competition shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that country.
11. Amendments
11.1 The Organisers reserve the right to amend these Terms and Conditions at any time without prior notice.
11.2 Any amendments will be communicated to participants and posted on the official Competition communication channels.
12. Acceptance of Terms
12.1 By entering the Competition, participants acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions.
