Sommelier – Devils Peak and Friends (Wine bar, Stellenbosch)

Providing personalized wine and beverage service, striving for the highest possible wine culture
and unique guest experience at the Devils Peak and Friends’ Stellenbosch Wine bar.

Job Summary:
This position requires a charismatic and energetic person, with great attention to detail and
passion for wine, to manage and control the wine selection, storage, sales and training of other
employees. Previous experience and wine education will have preference but is not a
requirement, in-house training will be provided.

Minimum Experience or Qualification:
• Relevant diploma and or wine course
• Must have 1-2 years’ experience in food and beverage service
• A proven interest and passion in wine
• Good command of the English Language
• Highly presentable
• Ability to work in a team
• Ability to up-sell, describe and recommend beverage products
• An ability to interact with guests at all levels
• Strong sales ability
• An ability to work on his/her own
• Able to work flexible hours, weekends and holidays
• Own transport as the restaurant also trades in evening and on weekends

Key Responsibilities:
• General sommelier service and wine tastings for all guests
• Responsible for promoting and maximizing beverage sales
• Follows and ensures that the company beverage standards of service are being adhered
• Effective stock control and storage of stock
• Assist with training all staff in terms of wine and wine service
• Provides prompt, attentive and courteous service to every guest
• Staying abreast of the latest trends in both the culinary, and wine and spirits world
• Helping customers choose the correct wine
• Cultivating relationships with distributors and vintners
• Achieve service excellence through teamwork
