From March 2013, Wines of South Africa (WOSA) will be running the second WOSA Sommelier Cup competition. With 12 countries competing for the ultimate honour, this is destined to be the experience of a lifetime. The competition consists of two parts: the SEMI-FINALS, which will be played in each of the participating countries and end in July 2013; and the FINAL, which will take place from 7–13 October 2013 (a one-week, all-expenses paid trip to South Africa).
SASA has been requested to assist in co-ordinating the judging process for the semi-finals and finals of this competition, as well as supplying judges from our executive committee for judging the finals at Grand Roche.
To our members, please note that this challenge is not open to local (resident South African) contenders. There is no South African representation in the competition, as the purpose of this competition (and WOSA’s mandate) is to introduce the international Sommelier market to SA wines. On top of that, all the questions are SA specific, so a local contender would have an unfair advantage.
